At Salt Sessions Freediving, we are excited to be heading to New Zealand to spearfish around the Mercury Island group. This is a unique opportunity to dive around the Mercury Island group based on a liveaboard trip giving us maximum dive time! All meals provided! With only 8 guests per trip this is an amazing opportunity to target some of New Zealand's premier fish!
What You Can Expect
For 4 days and 3 nights, we will stay on the liveaboard, ‘The M.V INSIGHT’, sailing around the amazing Greater Mercury Islands: exploring the reefs, freediving, and, most importantly, spearfishing. When deciding on joining, remember that:
- We are diving the magical waters of the Mercury Island group targeting some of New Zealand's amazing marine life from kingfish, snapper, crayfish and so much more!
- You will have two guides among the group helping you land & improve your spearfishing during the retreat.
- The advantage of being based at the Mercury Island group is that we will always find a protected place to dive.
- You will want a 5mm two piece wetsuit to dive the more temperate waters of New Zealand.
- There is a variety of depths available making it a suitable trip from beginner to advanced level diver.
- We are also going to fillet and freeze your catch for you to bring back to Australia after our retreat.
What Does Your Trip Include?
If you’re up for the challenge, your trip fee of $2,690 will include:
- 3 nights (4 days) on the fully catered on the liveaboard.
- dive weights
What's the plan?
- Arrive the day before departure to ensure maximum water time
- Fly out the day after we arrive back on shore.
- Accommodation will be needed the day of arrival and the day we dock back on shore. We can help you with this.

What to bring along?
Below is a basic list of things we recommend to bring along. This list isn't exhaustive and please check with us before the trip.
- 5mm 2 piece wetsuit and all your spearfishing equipment.
- 1,1m speargun, including a float line and float.

- Sleeping bag (pillow & sheet provided)
**the price does not include flights and transfer's to Whitianga. The transfer's are approximately $100 each way using GoKiwi Shuttles. It also doesn't include accommodation the night before departure or the night we return back to Whitianga**
